Brisk Shaw sees Delhi past comfortably
Delhi Capitals have picked their fifth win in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season, as they beat Kolkata Knight Riders by seven wickets in Ahmedabad.
Apart from Andre Russell, who celebrated his 33rd birthday, and Shubman Gill, no KKR batter got going after being asked to bat. Gill made 43 runs off 38 balls. He departed after Lalit Yadav had dismissed Eoin Morgan and Sunil Narine in the same over for ducks.
Russell muscled 4 sixes and 2 fours on course to his 27-ball unbeaten 45 runs. KKR ended on 154/6. Axar Patel took two wickets for Delhi.
The reply was strong from Prithvi Shaw, who struck six fours in the first over bowled by Shivam Mavi (also bowled a wide). Shaw raced to an 18-ball half-century which is the quickest of this IPL.
Kolkata had little answers to Delhi’s quick start (67/0 in the powerplay). Pat Cummins chipped in with three late wickets but those were too late to change the complexion of the game.
Shikhar Dhawan made 46 from 47 in an opening stand of 132 runs in 13.5 overs. Shaw batted with a strike rate of 200 making 82 off 41, hitting 11 fours and 3 sixes.
Delhi got over the line with 21 balls to spare. They now sit at number two on the table with 10 points. Kolkata (4 points) are placed fifth.
