Broad becomes the seventh bowler to take 500 wickets in tests
English fast bowler Stuart Broad has become the seventh bowler in the history of cricket to take 500 wickets in Tests. His superhuman performance in the ongoing England-West Indies third test in Manchester is giving England the fragrance of victory. In this match, he has built the fame of taking 500 wickets.
Broad has completed his 500 wickets milestone by picking up Kraigg Brathwait’s wicket. It was a leg before wicket. Before Broad, only six bowlers had a record of 500 wickets in a Test. Broad is also the seventh fastest in terms of 500 wickets. This is the second time in the last decade that someone has achieved this feat, which is the ‘first’ in the current decade. Earlier in 2016, Broad’s compatriot James Anderson touched the milestone of 500 wickets.
Broad is the second English bowler to take 500 wickets. The two Englishmen who have built a unique reputation are still on the field. Anderson, however, has played fewer matches than Broad. Broad took his 500th wicket in his 140th career match. Anderson took 129 matches.
Former Bangladesh pace bowling coach and Caribbean legend Courtney Walsh also sought the 500th wicket after playing an equal number of matches with Anderson. Glenn McGrath (110), Shane Warne (106), Anil Kumble (105) and Muttiah Muralitharan (87) took the 500th wicket in .
