CA offers BCB T20I tri-series
After postponing a two-match Test and three-match ODI series with Bangladesh this year, Cricket Australia has offered them to play a T20I tri-series ahead of ICC World T20 2020 which will be hosted by Australia.
Bangladesh last toured Australia for a bilateral series in 2008. They have been in the country for 2015 World Cup where they reached quarter-finals. Underrated Bangladesh are yet to tour for a series in the Aussie land since then.
“The window allocated in the ICC FTP for Bangladesh to tour Australia in August this year has been postponed, by mutual agreement by both Cricket Australia and the Bangladesh Cricket Board,” a CA spokesman said on Thursday.
“Both countries agreed to postponing that tour to be better aligned ahead of the ICC World T20 in 2020 in Australia,” he added.
The tri-series is likely to be slated for the end of 2019 as a preparation for the World T20. The third participating nation is yet to be known.
Till now there have been two T20I tri-series among the full-member nations. Australia, New Zealand (both hosts) and England faced off earlier this year. Aussies won that tournament. Bangladesh travelled Sri Lanka for Nidahas Trophy where they ended up as runners-up after India snatched a thrilling victory in the final.
In 2015, Australia cancelled their Bangladesh tour due to security concerns. The tour was then moved to 2017. Bangladesh sealed their first Test win over Australia in Dhaka. The two-match series ended in 1-1.
