Cricket Australia (CA) will experiment the two captains policy in a match against visiting Sri Lankan team later this month. This was revealed by Matthew Taylor, CA Communications Manager, Domestic Cricket.
Speaking to this Reporter, he said, “Peter (Siddle) and Dan (Christian) have been selected as co captains in recognition of their outstanding leadership qualities and service to Australia cricket”.
Sri Lanka will play the first practice match against Australia’s Prime Minister XI (Manuka Oval, Griffith, Canberra) on October 24 before the three T-20 internationals are scheduled in Adelaide, Brisbane and Melbourne on Oct. 27, 30 and November 1 respectively.
“This is the first instance of the Prime Minister’s XI nominating two captains”.
“It is a break from the tradition and both will be known as co-captains. No further decisions have been made regarding on field duties”, he further added.
However, Greg Chappell, the former Australian cricketer, who has recently announced his retirement from the selector’s duty informs, “The Prime Minister (Scott Morrison) will do the toss. It (the PM going for a toss) does not matter. It’s an exhibition match”.
