Can India open Test series account in Adelaide?
India and Australia are all geared up for the series opener of the historic Border-Gavaskar trophy from December 6 in Adelaide Oval.
The most awaited four-match Test series between India and Australia representing the historic Border-Gavaskar trophy between both nations is starting on December 6th with so many anticipations on both teams.
There are many calls on the series that the visitors have a good chance to end their drought of winning a Test series in Australia for the ears of time as the recent forms of both teams suggest the same result before the series. So directly the expectations will be high on Virat and co.
After a wash-out on day 1 in Sydney, India had a good warm-up game against Cricket Australia XI as all the batsmen stepped up there. That looks a great sign for the visitors since they had a poor outing in England with the bat. The batsmen will have to carry the same momentum throughout the series.
As both teams announced the squads for the first Test, India are looking to have a depth in their batting line-up in Adelaide Oval playing seven pure batsmen. There will be a call on Rohit and Vihari as only one has the probability to get a game. It could be more easy to have Vihari as he can bowl some overs too.
In the bowling line-up, India have three seamers and one spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The choice of fast bowlers is pretty good as Shami, Ishant and Bumrah are good with bounce than Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Ashwin also has a big part to play as Adelaide will offer something for spinners in the second innings more.
In the host’s side, they are under a lot of pressure regarding their recent performances. But it’s not a new thing for Aussies to make a come back as they did it many times in the past. They are always supergiants in their home. Aussies are boosted with the come back of their quicks, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins.
The pace trio Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins will be the big triumph card for the host while a big challenge for India. Nathan Lyon will also play a big part since Adelaide is a happy hunting ground for the off-spinner especially against India.
With the trust on these four, Australia dropped Mitchell Marsh and increased the pure batting depth with Peter Handscomb. In the batting department, Aaron Finch, Travis Head, Usman Khawaja are looking in great touch with the bat against the red-ball.
So the hosts are also looking well-settled in all the departments and there will be a great challenge for Virat Kohli and co in the series opener itself.
Last time when India played in Adelaide in 2014, they came close to the victory but failed to grab it. Although Adelaide will have some typical Australian bounce, it will have some favorable conditions for the sub-continental players.
Now India will be under immense pressure to grab the fortunes in their favor and open the Test series with a victory. They don’t have to miss this chance if they want to record a historic series win in Australia.
