Tigers registered a historic series sweep over Pakistan after a comprehensive eight-wicket win in the third and final ODI to become the fifth Test-playing nation after Australia, England, Sri Lanka and the West Indies to clinch a series sweep over Pakistan in the history of limited-over cricket.
An unbeaten 127 by Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar led Bangladesh to the emphatic win while his opening partner Tamim Iqbal continued his run feast with scoring 64 off 76 balls to give Bangladesh a solid 145-run start.
Following such brilliance from both the Tiger openers, Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza claimed that Bangladesh have found the perfect opening combination they have been searching for long and showered Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar with praise.
According to the skipper, they had given the perfect start to their innings and were perfect foil for each other.
Soumya was made Man-of-the-Match for his peerless maiden century (127 not out) while Tamim was adjudged Man-of-the-Series for the highest 312 runs with back-to-back centuries in the first two ODIs.
Mashrafe commended Soumya for his ‘clever batting’.
“But he played his natural game. His shots were natural He started his career on a good note. He gave the team a good start in almost every match even after scoring like 20-25 runs.
“He’ll go far if he continues to work hard and play his best. I think he has only begun to show what he is capable of,” said the Bangladesh captain.
Mashrafe also hoped for Tamim to play bigger innings in the upcoming matches.
“Tamim is in great rhythm. I hope he will maintain this and play bigger innings in the upcoming matches.”
