Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal has been charged with altering the condition of the ball under the International Cricket Council Code of Conduct 2.2.9. The charge was brought after in the following day after Sri Lankan skipper delayed the start of the play on the third day of the second Test against West Indies.
The on field umpires Aleem Dar and Ian Gould also penalized Sri Lanka with 5 runs and change the ball.
The decision was taken harshly by Sri Lankan cricketers who denied to enter into the field after being punished and delayed the match for two hours.
Meanwhile Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) has come out with support for it’s’ cricketers with a statement that said, “The team management has informed us that Sri Lankan players have not engaged in any wrongdoing. SLC shall take all necessary steps to defend any player, in the event any unwarranted allegation is brought against a member of the team.”
