Chandimal ruled out, England make two changes for third Test
Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal hasn’t still recovered from his groin injury and he is set to miss the 3rd Test too while England have announced two changes for the final Test.
Things are not going too well for Sri Lanka. After suffering the series defeat already, they have to search for a consolation win in the final Test without their skipper once again.
SLC released a statement on Wednesday:
“Dinesh Chandimal, who missed the 2nd test due to an injury will not take part in the 3rd Test match vs England, as he is still recovering from the injury.”
Sri Lanka have also announced the replacement of Chandimal. Danushka Gunathilaka, who has made five Test appearances is likely to feature in the starting XI while Charith Asalanka, who was called up in the 2nd Test is not included in the final Test.
Meanwhile, England have decided to rest Sam Curran and James Anderson in order to give opportunity to Jonny Bairstow and Stuart Broad, who will be making their first appearances in this tour.
Bairstow was passed fit before the second Test, but he was not picked in the side in the end. He will feature in the 3rd Test, however, he will not keep the wickets. en Foakes, currently the top run-scorer in the series with 228 runs will keep the wickets.
Anderson himself announced on Wednesday that Broad will play in place of him.
“Broady’s going to play instead of me. The thinking is that with the series sewn up it’s an opportunity to rotate. Going to the West Indies as well and with a view to that, I think the feeling is they want Broady to get some Test cricket under his belt. So it’s going to be a week off. “It’s been a frustrating trip for me really because you want to contribute to the wins but I feel like I’ve tried my best but it’s not really been a series for the seamers.”
England XI for third Test: Rory Burns, Keaton Jennings, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Roots (c), Ben Stokes, Ben Foakes (wk), Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Adil Rashid, Jack Leach, Stuart Broad.
