Chandimal ruled out of second Test


More problems start to grow for the home side Sri Lanka as after a humiliating defeat in the first Test, they will be without their captain Diniesh Chandimal in the second Test.

Chandimal is ruled out due to groin injury which is expected to take another two weeks to recover. So far according to the reports, he will at least miss the second Test. In his absent, fast bowler Suranga Lakmal will take the leadership duties.

Sri Lanka have also brought in Charith Asalanka as Chandimal’s replacement. Kusal Perera and Lahiru Thirimanne despite being on the stand by, none were selected.

Asalanka’s inclusion is likely to have been based on his recent performance for Sri Lanka Board XI in the second warm-up match against England. The left handed batsman scored 63-ball 68 before retiring out. He is yet to  earn his national cap at the highest level, but has led the Under-19 team in the World Cup in 2016.

Meanwhile, team manager Charith Senanayake has resigned from the position due to personal reasons. . Jeryl Woutersz, who has previously fulfilled the role has been named as his replacement with immediate effect.
