Chandimal to captain SL, Jeevan returns for Bangladesh T20s

Leg-spinning all-rounder Jeevan Mendis has earned a recall to the Sri Lankan T20I side for the two-match series against Bangladesh later this month after over four years.

Mendis, who last played for the Sri Lankan team during the 2015 World Cup encounter against Afghanistan in Dunedin, makes a return while Asitha Fernando, who played an ODI against Zimbabwe in Hambantota.

Angelo Mathews, who normally captains the islanders in limited-overs cricket, has been ruled out with a hamstring injury for the rest of Sri Lanka’s tour of Bangladesh.

Chandimal hasn’t been part of Sri Lanka’s T20 squad since January last year. On the other hand, fast bowler Lasith Malinga failed to earn a recall having struggled with form and fitness last year.vThe two T20 matches are slated for February 15 and 18 following a two-match Test series.
