Chasing 200-odd runs on day 5 gives me confidence: Miraz

Young all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz who was the last man standing in the 1st innings believes the seniors need to step up in the 2nd innings to pull of a win.

Miraz said: “We won against Sri Lanka in their home soil chasing 200-odd runs on day 5 and that gives me confidence. I believe if we can win a Test match chasing 200 in their home soil, then we can also win a Test match chasing 300 plus score in our home soil.”

He added: “I also hope our senior players will step up and take the responsibility because anything can happen,” he said. “We are confident that we can chase the target, whatever the target is. Wicket is not unplayable or uneven. It has turn, but if batsmen can play well then I believe we can chase down the target. Batsman need to focus more in this wicket. If our batsman can play with more concentration then good result is possible.”

On bowlers’ inconsistent bowling: “”Our bowlers did not bowl a consistent line. If all of the three spinners, including me, could bowl in consistent line, then it would have been better. Sri Lanka batsmen also played well. But I think our bowler did not bowl that bad. In first innings we restricted them on 222. It’s a very good first innings total from bowling point of view. In second innings we also took eight wickets under 200 runs. So I will say the bowlers bowled well, but we should have checked the boundaries in the middle part.”
