Chennai make it three in three despite Stokes’ late cameo
Chennai Supers Kings (CSK) are off ta flyer with three wins in a row in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The defending champions are off to a terrific start and they are hard to stop at the moment. Rajasthan Royals came close, but only to suffer a narrow defeat by 8 runs.
After winning the toss, Rajasthan opted to field first. The men in yellow were in spot of bother after losing the openers early. IPL’s most successful batsman Suresh Raina played a steady innings of 36 from 32 before falling Unadkat.
But it was the skipper MS Dhoni’s day, who proved once again that age is just a number and he is just getting better. With 4 fours and 4 sixes, Dhoni smacked an unbeaten 75 off just 46 balls to power Chennai to a handy score of 175 runs.
In reply, Rajasthan had a terrible start as they lost the first three wickets with only 14 runs on the board. Rahul Tripathi (39) and Steven Smith (28) repaired the innings.
Imran Tahir made the vital breakthrough and took the game on their hands once again. When game was completely drifting away from Rajasthan, Ben Stokes’ thunderous 46 off just 26 balls kept the game alive.
With 12 runs needing in the last over, Stokes departed in the very first ball courtesy of a brilliant delivery from DJ Bravo and it also ended the hopes of Rajasthan.
Jofra Archer played a brilliant cameo of 24* off just 11 balls, but he failed to take the men in blue over the line in the end.
