Chris Gayle scored 40 runs in just 30 balls in his first match in Season Four. He striked four Sixes also, as he promised yesterday. But went out to Shahid Afridi while trying to hit his fifth sIX of the match.
Batting first Rangpur Riders were only able to score 123 runs in their 20 overs. Chasing 124 runs was never going to be a huge task for Chittagong Vikings. The Vikings openers though started carefully. They scored only 30 runs in the power play. Gayle remained notout at 7 off 13 balls and his partner Tamim was at 19 off 23 balls.
The credit should be given to Sohag Gazi of Rangpur Riders, to contain the Vikings in powerplay. Sohag Gazi gave only 7 runs in his first three overs. But he was punished soon by Gayle in the seventh over with two Sixes in two balls.
Then it came the moment the fans were waiting for. As Rangpur riders captain Naeem Islam introduced Shahid Afridi to the attack. But Chris Gayle went hard at him, hitting back to back Sixes again. But Afridi had the last smile, as he got Chris out the very next ball.
