The South African spinner shocked the opposition when he rattled Warwickshire batting line up to collect 7 for 18 in his 4 overs. It is, however, the best bowling figures in the history of T20 cricket.

The Leicestershire Foxes’ captain took the wickets of Michael Burgess, Sam Hain, Will Rhodes, Liam Banks, Alex Thomson, Henry Brookes and Jeetan Patel.

The record of the best bowling figure in Twenty20 format was previously owned by former Somerset all-rounder, Arul Suppiah, who had registered the figure of six for five in 3.4 overs against Glamorgan in 2011.

In the match between Leicestershire and Warwickshire at the Grace Road stadium in Leicester, Leicestershire won the toss and opted to bat first.

Openers Mark Cosgrove (20) and Hary Swindells (63) provided the flying start adding 40 runs in the beginning. Although Cosgrove departed, other opener Swindells made it to the eighteenth over of the innings scoring highest with 63 (50 balls).

A middle order blitz from Lewis Hill took the Leicestershire innings to 189/6 in 20 overs. Hill flicked 4 fours and 3 sixes in his 28 ball 58.

Chasing the target of 190, Warwickshire were bowled out for 134 once part-time off spinner Ackermann’s stunning spell collapsed the line up with falling of 8 wickets in 20 runs.

After the match, a bewildered Ackermann said,

“Never in a million years (did he think he would set a world record). I’m a batting all-rounder.”
