‘Confidence has returned’

Bangladesh wicket-keeper batsman Mushfiqur Rahim played a brilliant 72-run knock off just 35 balls to guide his side to a historical T20 victory against Sri Lanka on Saturday. Everyone thought Bangladesh would lose the game after Sri Lanka posted a mountain total of 214 runs in 20 overs but Mushfiqur’s sensible batting led Tigers to the victory.

A victory like that can write off a lot of the disappointments of recent bad performances and bring some much-needed belief to the Tigers. Meanwhile, Mushfiqur has said belief and confidence which have been Bangladesh lack of in recent times have returned with this victory.

“If you look at the T20 format and obviously on paper Sri Lanka are favourites but in T20 format whoever will play well on the day will win. So thanks to the Almighty that batting wise we were terrific in the last match and that’s why the team could win. So we needed that belief and confidence and it has returned,” Mushfiqur Rahim was quoted as saying in The Daily Star.

“Hopefully we will continue and obviously we have a good chance. We still have two remaining matches so we are concentrating on the next match and the team are planning to win the next match and go through to the final,” he concluded.
