CPL 2019: Patriots pull record T20 run-chase

In a night of records in the Caribbean Premier League, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots transcript the second highest successful run chase in the history of Twenty20 cricket.

In the match against Jamaica Tallawahs at the Warner Park, Basseterre in St Kitts, Patriots chased down 242 runs with seven deliveries to be bowled in that innings.

In the process, West Indies’ international and Patriots’ batsman Evin Lewis scored the fastest half century in CPL history so far.

The record for the highest successful run chase in T20 history goes to Australia. The Aussies successfully chased 245 runs in 18.5 overs against New Zealand in 2018.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots fired a vibrating start while started chasing the massive total. Devon Thomas and Evin Lewis shared an 85-run partnership facing just 33 deliveries.

Lewis was caught by Phillips against an Andre Russell delivery scoring 53 off 18 with 3 fours and six sixes. Meanwhile Thomas’ half century stretched to 71 off 40 deliveries.

Fabian Allen partnered with Shamarh Brooks adding 50 runs for the sixth wicket ensured Patriots chased down the total successfully.

Earlier Chris Gayle scored a 62-ball 116 including seven fours and 10 sixes propelling Jamaica Tallawahs to mount 241 for 4 in 20 overs.

Gayle now has most number of centuries in the Caribbean Premier League. The 39-year old shared a 162-run partnership for the second-wicket with Chadwick Walton.

Walton scored a 36-ball 73 including three fours and eight sixes.
