CSK crush RCB in IPL opener
Neither of the captains was unaware of the pitch would behave ahead of the match and guessing the right side of the coin helped MS Dhoni to make the right move i.e. bowling first. It was not a high-scoring pitch as it behaved a bit slowly and CSK spinners capitalized the chances and became successful over RCB’s batsmen.
Except Parthiv Patel’s 29, all other batsmen got out in single digits. Who would have predicted this batting collapse and that too in the IPL opener? But apparently, RCB set the lowest total in the tournament as they got bowled out for just 70 runs. Thanks to CSK spinners, for getting the job done, as they stuck to their lines and lengths.
The highlight of CSK’s bowling was Harbhajan Singh’s three-wicket haul, which came at the right time to stop three dangerous batsmen namely Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Moeen Ali. Imran Tahir was economical albeit picking three wickets to his name. As the bowlers contained really well, it was easy for the think-tank to restrict to the lowest total.
And as they say, lowest totals are the trickiest ones, it didn’t happen like that today. CSK was calm and composed despite RCB’s relentless fight. Rayudu gave some good start to the game and hitting a six was crucial enough to set the tone in the early part of the game. The highlight of CSK’s batting was Raina inching past the 5000-run mark. Then batsmen rotated strike and slowly paced the innings and inched past the finishing line.
