CSK to release upto 7 to 8 cricketers before IPL 2021 auction: reports
Chennai Super Kings had a disastrous venture in the thirteenth edition of the Indian Premier League at the United Arab Emirates. The three-time IPL champions never looked like competing for the title but instead, they looked like a side that was clearly struggling to win games.
They managed to win just 6 games out of the 14 league stage fixtures. However, it could have been worse had it not been for Ruturaj Gaikwad’s contribution in the last three games. CSK who were finding it tough to win games somehow found momentum in the form of Ruturaj.
The Maharashtra batsman played an instrumental role with the bat by chipping in with a fifty in the last three games. Rightly so, CSK won the last three games and finished 7th in the points table with 12 points. This is their worst ever season in the history of the IPL.
CSK to release up to 8 players
Meanwhile, all the eight respective franchises have begun their preparations for the forthcoming season of the IPL. After seeking permission from India’s governing body, franchises have started the groundwork. Players can either be swapped or be released before the upcoming auction.
As per the reports, CSK are all set to release 7 to 8 players before the IPL 2021 auction. During the IPL Governing Council meeting which took place on January 4, it was planned that the process should be done by January 21, if the franchisees want to release or replace cricketers from another team.
As per ‘InsideSports’ report, CSK is set to release Kedar Jadhav, Harbhajan Singh, Dwayne Bravo, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, Piyush Chawla. The report goes on to add saying that the players are to be auctioned for the upcoming season in the first week of February.
As per the reports, Chennai has just Rs 15 lakh left to afford new players and in this case, the team management feels it is best to release some players.
Meanwhile, there were reports that Raina has already played his last game for CSK and that the franchise has parted ways with him. However, a top CSK official confirmed that Raina is still part of the CSK family and also added that the marquee player will surely play the next season. “He will be with us. There are no plans to part with him,” Mumbai Mirror quoted a top CSK official as saying.
