Cumilla Warriors kick-off BPL campaign with a huge victory
Cumilla Warriors thrashed Rangpur Rangers in the second game of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
The second game of the tournament turned out to be a one-sider as Rangpur Rangers suffered a huge defeat by 105 runs against Cumilla Warriors.
After getting to bat first, however, Cumilla had a poor start as Yasir Ali departed for a golden duck with Soumya Sarkar and Malan also failed to score big. But the skipper Dasun Shanaka led his team from the front with a brutal knock. With 3 fours and 9 massive sixes, Shanaka scored 75* off just 31 balls to take Cumilla to a huge score of 173 in their 20 overs.
Sanjit Saha had a terrific day with the ball as he picked up two wickets and conceded only 26 runs. Mustafizur Rahman also picked up two, but was very expensive at the death overs.
In reply, the target proved to be too much for Rangpur and no batsman could contribute. They were bundled out for only 68 runs courtesy of a class bowling from the Warriors. Al-Amin was the pick of the bowler who picked up 3/14 while Soumya Sarkar and Sunjamul Islam picked up two wickets each.
