Curran brothers called for Lankan ODI series
England Cricket Board has announced a 16-member squad for the ODI series against Sri Lanka which will start on October 10th in Colombo.
Main inclusion in the squad is the Uncapped Warwickshire fast bowler Olly Stone. The 24-year pace bowler is been among the best fast bowlers in County stint at the moment.
In this year’s Royal London One-Day Cup, Stone led the side’s wicket-taking list, with 12 wickets at 28.17. He has been named as the replacement for Liam Plunkett as the fast bowler will miss first three games because of his marriage.
Another important inclusion in the squad is the left handed fast bowling all-rounder Sam Curran after a terrific Test series against India. Earlier this year Sam Curran has made his debut in ODI. But he was dropped for the ODI series against India.
The left handed fast bowling all-rounder has been named as the replacement for the left arm pacer David Willey was ruled out of the tour with a stress fracture of the back.
Sam’s brother Tom Curran who was ruled out of the ODI series against India due to side strain is been added into the squad. Inclusion of Curran brothers and their current form have raised the possibility that they will become the first brothers to play for England in the same match since Adam and Ben Hollioake in 1999.
Chris Woakes, the lead seamer of English bowling department in ODI format is back into the side after missing the Indian series due to knee injury.
England will leave for Colombo on 30th September and the first ODI will be played in Colombo on 10th October. England will announce a squad for the one-off T20 match and a party for the three-match Test series in due course.
