CWC 2019: Gavaskar lashes out India’s schedule
Former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar raised questions on the schedules of the Indian Cricket team in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 in England and Wales.
After some off days, men in blue are back into the action with their campaign opener of ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against South Africa in Ageas Bowl. India are the last team to kickstart the tournament while some other teams have completed two matches in the tournament.
Former Indian batsman and cricket expert made some harsh comments on the poor scheduling of India’s matches in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. India played their second warm up match on May 30th and now having the first game on June 5th.
“The internal issues at BCCI probably didn’t allow the officials to have a close look at the schedule before it was firmed up, else they would have noticed that India, one of the top draws of the event, we’re going to play their first game well after almost every other team would have played their second one,” Gavaskar was quoted in his column for Times of India.
Eventhough India had a long gap for the opening game, they will have some tight packed schedules in the upcoming days specially they have matches on June 30th and July 2nd. “India is the only team who have just this one-day break while other teams have invariably a minimum of two between their next game. India will be playing after a whole week’s gap after their last warm-up game. All these factors may not count in the end, because the team is good and versatile, but if India do stumble then these aspects will have to be answered for,” he added.
