Darren Sammy brilliance keep Rajshahi alive
Darren Sammy’s Rajshahi Kings came out winner against the Khulna Titans in the 28th match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) season Four. Batting first Rajshahi scored 154 losing eight wickets in 20 overs. In reply Khulna Titans were 9 runs short after 20 overs scoring 145 with the loss of Six wickets.
The vital win for Kings will also keep them in the contest for the qualifiers of the final. Rajshahi have now won four matches out of nine they have played. This was only the third defeat for Mahmudullah’s Titans who still remain in the top of the table with 12 points.
Khulna Titans lost their opener early chasing the total of 154 set by Rajshahi Kings. Hasanuzzaman was the first to go at the total of 8 runs in the first ball of the second over scoring only a run. He was soon followed by Shuvagoto in the next over, who went out for 2 giving catch to Junaid Siddiqui.
He was replaced by Captain Mahmudullah. The skipper joined Wessels in the crease. Both of them started to bat sensibly after losing two early wickets. They formed a valuable partnership of 47 runs. The Rajshahi Kings captain Darren Sammy broke the partnership, taking the wicket of Wessels. But not before him scoring 36 runs which also in the end was the highest score of the innings.
Mahmudullah carried the button from their. He was joined by wicket-keeper Pooran. But Abud Hasan who had other plans who bowled out Mahmudullah. Captain went out for 33, but the others were not able to give an ideal finish for which Titans remained 9 runs short of the target. Spinner Nazmul Islam was the pick of the Rajshahi bowlers with 1 wicket for only 17 runs in his four overs.
