DD earn some pride after a clinical win against CSK

In the match number 52 of the Indian Premier League (IPL), struggling Delhi Daredevils who are already out of the tournament earned some pride my beating the 2nd positioned Chennai Super Kings by 36 runs.

Batting first, Delhi Daredevils looked destined for a total around 150 before a massive last over gave them a strong score. In reply, only Ambati Rayudu managed some sort of rhythm in an otherwise sub-par batting display. In the end, CSK were restricted to 128 for 6 in reply to Delhi’s 162 for 5.

Deepak Chahar and Trent Boult found swing early on for their respective teams. Lungi Ngidi and Avesh Khan were able to hurry the batsmen with pace and bounce, while the spinners constantly extracted turn off the pitch. Prithvi Shaw looked scratchy against the moving delivery, while Shreyas Iyer too couldn’t find much rhythm in his batting. It resulted in Delhi Daredevils only managing 39 runs in the powerplay.

Ravindra Jadeja managed to tie things down soon after with unwavering lines and lengths, but it was the over from Lungi Ngidi that made the biggest difference.

After 19 overs, Delhi Daredevils were 136 for 5 and in danger of being restricted to around 145. Harshal Patel, however, had different ideas. The right-hander slammed three sixes in the over off Dwayne Bravo, while Vijay Shankar hit one as Delhi finished with 162 runs.

Shane Watson (14 off 23), Suresh Raina (15 off 18), Sam Billings (1 off 5) and MS Dhoni (17 off 23) all struggled to go big to leave CSK needing a miracle in the latter stages.

Both teams will play at home on Sunday, the last day of the league stage. Delhi Daredevils welcome Mumbai Indians, while Chennai host Kings XI Punjab.
