“We will see what works for both parties,” de Villiers said. “We are not going to pick and choose games, but we are going to make a final decision about what happens for the next few years.”

The Protea batsman has kept him out of the England Test series. The main reason for having a break from Tests is that he wants to keep himself fit for the 2019 World Cup in England and Wales. He didn’t play Tests against Sri Lanka at home and in New Zealand as well. He might return in white shirts against Bangladesh.

“I am going to spend a bit of time off at home with the family, I’m going to welcome my new youngster into the world, and obviously look to stay fit. I want to make sure I am ready for September, when Bangladesh come,” he said.

de Villiers was South Africa’s top-scorer in the three T20Is against England with 146 runs. He was the stand-in captain as Faf du Plessis was missing. He is waiting for the final decision after a chat to Cricket South Africa in August.

“It’s my main dream to win a World Cup for South Africa, or to be part of it in one way or another… I don’t even think it’s in my hands, what is going to happen. I will wait until the final decision on the coach and things like that are made. Then I can also have a chat to CSA, to see where I am going to fit in.”

The South Africa-Bangladesh 2017 series includes two Tests, three ODIs and two T20Is.
