Delhi Daredevils sign Marlon Samuels to replace injured Quinton de Kock
Delhi Daredevils have signed West Indies all-rounder, Marlon Samuels as a replacement for the injured Quinton de Kock for the remainder of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017
De Kock was ruled out of the eight-team IPL after sustaining tendon damage on his right index finger during South Africa’s tour of New Zealand in March. [Read also: Soumya wants to get married]
The 36-year-old West Indian batsman went unsold at the IPL Auction 2017 where he had a base price of INR 1 crore but he is expected to join the Delhi Daredevils squad on April 29 in time for their clash against Kings XI Punjab at Mohali on April 30.
A veteran of 71 Tests, 187 One-Day Internationals and 55 T20Is, Samuels has played for one IPL franchise in previous editions. He last played in the IPL for Pune Warriors in 2013, which is the only team that he has represented in the competition. In the eight matches for the side, he scored over 100 runs and picked up eight wickets.
The temperamental Jamaican has played 149 T20 matches in which he has amassed nearly 4,000 runs at an average of over 32 and strike rate just under 120 with two hundreds, and 25 fifties to his name.
Daredevils, currently placed second from bottom with only two wins from six matches, play their next match on Friday, against table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens.
