Trent Boult kept Delhi Daredevil’s hopes still alive in the 2018 Indian Premier League; the Kiwi mastermind defended 15 runs in the final over of the match to snatch a 4 run victory over Rajasthan Royals in a rain affected 32nd encounter of the league at the Feroz Shah Kotla ground in Delhi.
Rain hit before as well as in the middle of the match – forced to curtail overs and then to revise the target also.
Two half centuries in the middle by Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant helped Delhi Daredevils to score a notable 196 runs after Rajasthan Royals sent them to bat first.
Captain Shreyas Iyer formed an exact 50 while Rishabh Pant raced into 69 runs facing a paltry of 29 deliveries. The aggressive knock leathered with 5 exquisite sixes and 7 boundaries as well.
With a strike rate of more than 200, Pant – Iyer partnership added 92 runs in 43 deliveries, carried the initial good work done by opener Prithvi Shaw.
Shaw punched back towards the Rajasthan Royals bowlers after the initial jerk when Dinesh Kulkarni trapped Colin Munro in a first ball duck.
Shaw’s 25 ball 47 contained 4 sixes and equal number of boundaries.
The innings break came with the rain break. This time, the late night shower at the Feroz Kotla made the match officials to curtail the target. The revised one stood at 151 off 12 overs.
Rajasthan Royals’ reply was up to the target. D Arcy Short and Jos Buttler batted unbreakably till the seventh over – stretched the opening partnership up to 82.
Buttler got passed way his fifties – the Rajasthan Royal’s captain exhibited a thunderous innings at the Delhi home ground, smashed 7 sixes and 4 boundaries. Facing 26 balls, Buttler ended scoring 67 runs when he was missed the delivery from Mishra to get stumped by Pant behind the wicket.
The Rajasthan Royals still survived their hopes with D Arcy in the crease, comforting with cameo partnerships but none of them lasted long to increase the run rate.
Krishnappa Gawtham strike a quick fire 18 facing 6 balls leaving Rajasthan 4 runs away from the victory target.
With Mumbai Indians literally thrown out of the competition, Delhi Daredevils, with the win, which is only their third win in 9 matches, have faint chances to recover from there on.
While Rajasthan Royals, bagging three wins in eight matches, have fallen the run rate and still positioned just above Mumbai Indians in the point table.
With 12 points each beside their names, Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad are leading the point table so far; CSK being in the number one spot for a better run rate. Both of them played eight matches.
Kings XI Punjab, played one match less than the previous twos, are in the third position with 10 points grabbing five wins out of seven matches they played.
