Dhawan as important for India as Kohli and Rohit: Harbhajan
Experienced India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh reckons that comeback man Shikhar Dhawan’s contribution to the Indian cricket in white-ball cricket is as important as that of team skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma.
Everybody talks about Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli but people fail to notice Dhawan’s useful contributions. The opening batsman made a comeback to the Indian team against South Africa after getting injured during the World Cup.
“Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma are some of the finest batsmen that India has seen, and have proven to be one of India’s best opening pairs. Shikhar Dhawan’s contribution to the game is as important as that of Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli,” Star Sports expert Harbhajan said.
“Be it T20 or 50 overs, irrespective of the format, Shikhar is really good. According to me, there is no better opener than Shikhar Dhawan, along with Rohit Sharma, in any format – T20 and 50 overs. If he continues working on his fitness in the coming 2-3 years, I think he will be unstoppable,” he said.
Shikhar Dhawan played a handy knock against South Africa in Mohali T20I. His 40-run knock comprising 4 fours and a six helped the team give a good start in the build-up to the run-chase.
India comprehensively won the match by 7 wickets and after the game, Dhawan at the post-match presentation said: “It was a good start for all of us. I was playing well, timing the ball well and enjoying myself.
Great to get a winning start to the home season. We guys practice a lot at that pace. We are used to it now and that’s why we can counter that pace in matches. It was great to see Rohit hit those sixes and it was a great feeling for me to hit boundaries,” he added.
