Andre Russell began his IPL 2019 campaign with a bang firing Kolkata Knight Riders to a six-wicket win over former champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday.

The 30 year old Caribbean literally snatched the game from the grasp of SRH. When KKR required 53 runs to win from the last three overs, Russell blazed with all fires smacking 49 not out in just 19 balls to take his side home of victory with two balls still to spare.

Earlier Sunrisers Hyderabad scored 181 for the loss of 3 wickets, credit goes to a 53 ball 85 by the former Aussie Vice-captain David Warner on his comeback occasion.

Andre Russell exhibited an all-round show in the occasion; he claimed two out of three wickets shed by the SRH.

He hit four sixes and as many boundaries in his match winning knock. Flaunting his biceps to Robin Uthappa who was behind the mike, Russell revealed how he passed the boredom.

“Well, not now [push-ups]. When I was bored, I was doing 300 push-ups every few days. That got me interested. We had a good night out and I am excited the way we have started the season,” he said.

In 2018, he played the most number of games in the IPL – 16 and scored 316 runs at a strike-rate of 184.

In the shortest format of cricket, Russell has a strike-rate of 167 above.
