Disappointed Mahmudullah wants to fight back
Mahmudullah Riyad had made a nice start to his new journey as the captain of Bangladesh in absence of Shakib Al Hasan, when he led the Tigers to a fine T20I victory over India. However, he has not been able to show his captaincy charisma since that match, and it continues even in the ongoing T20I series against Pakistan.
After losing the series opener by five wickets in a hard fought encounter, Bangladesh made no progress whatsoever, rather conceded an even bigger margin defeat of nine wickets. And thanks to this victory, Pakistan have already taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series with another match to go.
Mahmudullah has not even been made the permanent captain of the T20I side, though he is being considered as the man to lead Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup this year. The dismal result in this series will surely not go well with the team management. Besides it is also quite disappointing for Mahmudullah, as he said in the post match presentation ceremony.
“We are disappointed to lose the game and series. We didn’t apply ourselves to get 150-160. Apart from Tamim, none of us batted well. Pakistan bowled in the righh areas. We aren’t sure about combination for the next game, we will look at it a while later,” said the Bangladesh skipper.
However, Mahmudullah was also optimistic about a better showing in the next match. He hoped that his side will be able to bounce back, and win the third and final T20I to end the series on a winning note.
“I don’t know how will our approach be for the next game. Maybe we will try out a few experiments. But one thing is clear that we have to bounce back and win the match.”
Meanwhile, Pakistan captain Babar Azam was adjudged the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 66-run knock, and he thinks this series has been important for the youngsters.
“Youngsters have done well in this series and that is important as we want more options for the T20 World Cup. We would like to give chance to players sitting on the bench in the final game,” said Azam.
The third T20I match will be held at the same venue (Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore) on January 27. Bangladesh cricketers will come back home the next day.
