Domingo to sit down with Mashrafe over ODI future

Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo is going to sit down with Mashrafe Bin Mortaza to receive some clarity about the ODI skipper’s future, reported Cricbuzz.Domingo to sit down with Mashrafe over ODI future

As Bangladesh will host Zimbabwe for one Test, three ODIs and two T20Is later this month, it is important for the coach to know if Mashrafe will play in the ODIs.

In Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB)’s desperation to seek some clarity on Mashrafe’s future, the head coach and chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu has already had a chat with the 36-year-old once. However, BCB cricket operations chairman Akram Khan informed that nothing came out of that previous meeting.

“Our head coach Domingo will sit with him after returning from Pakistan to know his mind as we have a home series against Zimbabwe,” Akram was quoted as saying on Cricbuzz.

“Yes, he [Mashrafe] had spoken with the head coach and chief selector last Friday but the meeting ended without any conclusion. We must get a clear picture about his plan of action as he did not clear it during that meeting.”

Mashrafe’s retirement has been an ever-going issue since the World Cup last year, but neither BCB nor Mashrafe have been able to come to any conclusion. Mashrafe has not played for Bangladesh since the world event, where he had a World Cup to forget as his bowling performances brought in large criticism.

Earlier in January this year, Mashrafe said he had not taken any decision on his retirement yet and admitted that the decision on his selection lied with national team selectors.
