‘Don’t mind if I hurt anyone’
Taskin Ahmed has a long-time relationship with injuries. He is one of the most injury-prone cricketers of Bangladesh. Due to injury, he has been out of competitive cricket for some time.
Bangladesh are now busy playing against Zimbabwe at home, but because of his injury Taskin was not even considered for selection. With the World Cup coming closer, it is a big challenge for him to win a place back in the national team.
However, Taskin says he is confident enough to make a quick comeback on the field, and he is also looking to get called up to the national squad again through the forthcoming series against West Indies.
There is a common complaint against Taskin that goes like he is not careful enough about his fitness, which is why he suffers injuries quite often. But Taskin does not buy this popular public opinion.
“That I fall to injuries because of my carelessness is a white lie. As a cricketer, I always want to remain fit and keep going. At the end of the day, cricket is not only my profession, it is like an addiction, too,” said the pace sensation.
He also shared how painful it is for him to not play either domestic or international cricket, rather sit back at home with injury. “It’s very difficult for me as a player to be at home with injury. To play for Bangladesh is always a matter of dream and peace. So I consider myself very unlucky that I am not being able to play.”
Then he added, “I want to return soon. I want to represent my country. There are some big series and tournaments ahead. Then there is also the World Cup fast approaching. My dream is to play the World Cup like the last time.”
But Taskin also understands the reality, “Becoming fit is not just enough. I have to earn my place in the team. I will put my highest effort to get into the teams for West Indies series, then play in BPL and also be a part of the New Zealand tour. Getting selected is a thing not in my hand. I will simply try to deliver my best.”
Taskin concluded with seeking prayers from everyone and added, “Please don’t mind if I have ever hurt anyone. Keep me in your prayers so that I can play in the national jersey again.”
