Dynamites stun Riders by two runs
The finalists of last BPL – Dhaka Dynamites and Rangpur Riders have provided a great treat to full-house crowd at Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur. Dhaka snatched a thrilling 2-run win over 2017’s champions.
Hosts Dhaka Dynamites opted were sent in to bat first by Rangpur Riders. The Riders made early inroads getting both openers dismissed inside the powerplay. Sohag Gazi went through Hazratullah Zazai’s (1) defence in the second over while Sunil Narine fell in a soft manner to Mashrafe Bin Mortaza in the third over.
Rony Talukdar (18 off 8) and Mizanur Rahman (15) couldn’t get along. It was upto experienced T20 stars Shakib Al Hasan, the skipper and Caribbean power-hitter Kieron Pollard. The duo put on 78 runs for the fifth-wicket stand to lift Dhaka from danger.
Pollard registered the fastest fifty of this BPL in 21 balls. He made 26-ball 62 runs hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes. Shakib was watchful in his 36 off 37. Andre Russell hit three sixes in his 13-ball 23 as the Dynamites posted a challenging total of 183/9. Shafiul Islam picked 3 for 35 for Rangpur.

In reply, Dhaka got the start they wanted by sending back openers Chris Gayle (8) and Mehedi Maruf (10). Shuvagata Hom got the better of Gayle as a stunning show of relay catch was seen from Russell to Pollard at long-on.
Rilee Rossouw took the charge with Mohammad Mithun for the third-wicket in the chase. A stand of 121 runs got Rangpur Riders pretty much in the driver’s seat. Rossouw hit his second fifty of the season in 29 balls.
Rossouw made tournament-high 83 runs from 44 deliveries including 8 fours and 4 sixes before getting stumped to debutant off-spinner Aliss Islam in the 16th over. Shakib sent back Ravi Bopara for 3 to get Dhaka back in the game.
Aliss turned out to be game changer with a mind-blowing hat-trick on last three balls of the 18th over. Mithun (49) missed a sweep to get himself bowled. Aliss bowled Mashrafe and got Farhad Reza for golden ducks to pick the first hat-trick of 2019 BPL.
Rangpur needed 14 runs with just one wicket remaining. Shafiul ignited the excitement with back-to-back fours on first two balls of Aliss. The debutant offie however held his nerve to seal a two-run victory. He grabbed four wickets for 26 runs.
Dhaka Dynamites are currently topping the points table with three wins from three games.
