ECB announces date of first ever ‘The Hundred’ players’ draft
The squads of eight participating teams for the upcoming “The Hundred” competition will be finalized on October 20, England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Wednesday.
The players’ draft, which will be the first of its’ kind for a British sport to be televised live in the country, will be shown on Sky Sports from 7pm on the aforementioned date as teams will be chosen from strings of overseas and England cricketers both international and home-grown talents.
ECB chief executive officer, Tom Harrison said,
“The Hundred is an exciting new cricket competition that we hope will grow our wonderful sport even further. Fans can enjoy some of the world’s biggest names playing for eight brand new cricket teams across men’s and women’s competitions.”
The English cricket authorities after officially announced the launching of the Hundred on Wednesday, is also inviting fans to register their interest in the competition before tickets go on sale in October.
All the matches in the competition are to be completed in less than 2.5 hours but the ECB is still to confirm team names and venues for the five-week event.
However, ECB admitted a slight promotional mistake while launching the official website of ‘The Hundred’ competition where a predominant male crowd was shown in the image.
The image was, in fact, of the audience at a concert by US rapper Logic in Miami in 2017 and became the top result Google returns of a search for ‘male audience’.
