Elgar, Nortje put South Africa on top
Clinical performances from Anrich Nortje and Dean Elgar put South Africa on top at the end of day one of the second Test against Sri Lanka.
South Africa are having a good momentum in the ongoing Sri Lanka’s tiny outing in South Africa. Sri Lanka are playing two Tests in South Africa and the final game of the tour has started in Wanderers.
After winning the first Test comfortably, South Africa has come into the second Test on top notch. While the visitors are healing with injuries. Their star batsman in last Test, Dinesh Chandimal is also missing this Test due to the injury issues. The injuries resulted in couple of debutants for visitors in the second Test.
Sri Lankan captain Dimuth Karunaratne won the toss and elected to bat first. But the decision to bat first backfired the hosts. It was a poor display of batting from Sri Lankan batsmen. The skipper was the first man to go and once again he was dismissed for a single digit score in the tour.
The other opener Kusal Perera off to a good start and scored 60 runs. Unfortunately he was unable to convert the start he got. From his wicket, the collapse of Lankan batting order happened. Wiaan Mulder provided three quick wickets for the hosts within first three overs of his spell. Anrich Nortje later came and conquered the remainder of the batting lineup.
In the end, Sri Lanka bowled out for 157 and that too within two sessions of play. In reply, South Africa are having a steady first innings. By the stumps on day one, the hosts were 148/1, after losing the wicket of Aiden Markram.
