End of Dinesh Karthik? Shreyas Iyer likely to be included in WI tour
After an abrupt and quite disappointing end to the World Cup 2019 campaign, India are set to fly to the Caribbeans for a full-fledged tour. Several changes are expected to be made by the Indian selectors including which the exclusion of Dinesh Karthik is highly likely.
Karthik, who made into the team in the team in the business end of the World Cup, appeared in three matches against Bangladesh, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
He, therefore failed to impress, scored 8 runs against Bangladesh, 6 in the semi-final against New Zealand, and did not down to bat against Sri Lanka.
According to reports of Indian media, Karthik is not likely to be picked for India’s tour to West Indies consist of three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Test matches.
Mid-day reported that the India ‘A’ team member Mumbai’s Shryas Iyer will most likely get the positive news form the selectors when the meeting will be held on Friday.
Iyer has scored 77, 2, 47 for India A against West Indies A in the ongoing tour. He has also been consistent in domestic cricket for over an year.
Iyer played last of his six ODIs against South Africa at Centurion in February 2018.
The 24-year old might roll in to No. 4 in the batting line up. He is known as a skilled batsman against spin and a vibrant fielder.
