England appoint new spin bowling coach for New Zealand tour
England Cricket Board has appointed Jeetan Patel as a spin-bowling consultant for the upcoming Twenty20 series against New Zealand.
Patel’s presence gives England’s spinners an added advantage where they will be able to gain the much-needed inputs from the Warwickshire captain.
It should be noted that the former international was only hired on an interim coaching deal. He has played 78 matches for New Zealand across all formats and is the prominent spinner in county cricket over the past 10 years.
He will be part of Chris Silverwood’s coaching plans during the five-match Twenty20 series that sets the stage on fire on 1 November in Christchurch.
He has now been granted permission to miss the first three matches of New Zealand’s championship season by Wellington.
Patel has featured in 24 Tests for New Zealand before calling time on his international career in 2014 only to concentrate on county cricket.
The 39-year-old veteran ended this year’s County Championship with 64 wickets at a good average of 26.75.
The five-match T20 series is going to be really interesting for the cricket viewers as it starts at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on 1 November.
