England confirm Sri Lanka tour in January
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said that England has affirmed their visit through Sri Lanka for two Tests in January 2021. Both the matches will be played at the Galle International Cricket Stadium.
“England will arrive around 3 January and they will have about 11 days before the first Test, which will be played from 14-18 January. The second Test will take place from 23-27 January,” said SLC CEO Ashley de Silva confirming the dates.
England will not play any warm-up games against the Sri Lankan opposition. Rather they will play two warm-up games among themselves to get prepared for the Tests. Ashley de Silva also confirmed that England would have to stay in 14-day quarantine before they departure for Sri Lanka.
“They would be coming on a chartered flight and will undergo the required PCR test before going into a bubble,” he said.
This series will be the part of World Test Championship. It was postponed this year in March due to the coronavirus outbreak.
However, it should be mentioned that Bangladesh’s tour of Sri Lanka got postponed about a month ago because SLC made 14-day quarantine compulsory for them. But that’s not the same scenario for England as they won’t have to stay in quarantine there.
