England cricketers bash Taslima Nasreen for distasteful Moeen Ali tweet

Several England cricketers including Jofra Archer, Ben Duckett, Sam Billings have bashed controversial Bangladesh author Taslima Nasreen for her distasteful comment about all-rounder Moeen Ali.

Moeen Ali will play for CSK in IPL 2021

In a tweet posted on Monday (April 5), Nasreen reckoned had it not been cricket, Ali would be in terror-riden Syria and joined ISIS – which is a dreaded terror organisation.

The tweet came in the wake of reports appearing on media that Moeen Ali, who will represent Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming 2021 season of Indian Premier League (IPL), asked the team management to remove the logo of an alcohol brand from his jersey.

“If Moeen Ali were not stuck with cricket, he would have gone to Syria to join ISIS,” wrote Nasreen.

However, it should be noted that the CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan confirmed that there has been no such request made by Ali.

Meanwhile the tweet by Nasreen did not go down with the twitterati, as the author started receiving backlash from them. Star England pacer Jofra Archer also joined the party, as he wrote: “Are you okay? I don’t think you’re okay.”

After receiving much criticism from the netizens, Nasreen again took to her Twitter on Tuesday (April 6) to claim that her tweet about Moeen Ali was “sarcastic”.

But people do not seem to buy Nasreen’s claim, as proved by the tweet by Archer as well.

Here are reactions from other English cricketers:

Sam Billings also tweeted on this matter, replying on Mahmood’s tweet and asking everyone to report Nasreen’s account. He, however, decided to remove the tweet later on.
