Meanwhile, England fans were not at all happy with Joe Root’s captaincy. Taking to their Twitter handles, several England cricket fans launched a scathing attack on Root, with many feeling that he has to step down as captain in order to score more runs.

One wrote: “If England want to get runs back out of Joe Root he absolutely has to step down. The lad is just not coping with it.”

Joe Root now needs to be sacked as captain new beginning for English test cricket,” demanded a second.

While a third one added: “Joe Root deserves the sack. Pathetic Test Captain.”

“Joe Root might be a good batsman but he’s a rubbish captain,” tweeted another frustrated England fan.

And a fifth vented out his frustration by saying: “Joe Root is clearly not a captain, zero game plan to get Smith out and constant f***ing around with the batting order.”

Meanwhile, some fans have already suggested that Joe Root should be replaced by Ben Stokes this summer.

England’s knight in shining armour led the World Cup and Headingley victories with heroic knocks of 84* and 135* respectively.

“Joe Root should step down….let Stokesy be the captain,” tweeted one user.

Another one said that England should appoint new Test captain so that it would relieve pressure on Root’s shoulders as he would bat freely. Ben Stokes is the one who can handle pressure better than anybody else, opined the fan. “England need new test captain, Let Joe Root bat freely. Give it to someone like Ben Stokes who handles pressure well.”

“It was Stokes who took the team talk in the huddle yesterday. Root stood silent – not a captain, Stokes would inspire much more. The job’s too big for Root,” suggested another fan.
