England win the only ODI despite early hiccups
England won the only ODI against Ireland by 4 wickets in a rain-affected encounter. Ireland were well in course to produce an upset at one stage.
In the one and the only ODI, Ireland fought well in Dublin and almost created an upset before debutant Ben Foakes and Tom Curran produced a match-winning partnership.
England won the toss and opted to field first in the only ODI. Ireland were in trouble right from the word go and they kept losing wickets in the later part of the innings. Without Paul Stirling and Mark Richard, none could cross the 30-mark.
It was a special came for the Barbarbos born all-rounder Jofra Archer, who finally made his debut for England. He finished with bowling figures of 1 for 40 while Plunkett’s four and Rashid’s three wickets restricted Ireland to 198.
In reply, Ireland bowled departed showed glimpse of hope of an upset as England were 6 wickets down for only 101 runs on the board. But wicket-keeper batsman Foakes and Surrey team-mate Tom Curran (47 not out) saw England to victory with an unbroken stand of 98 in the end.
