England’s Salt replaces injured Malan for Pakistan T20I
England were given a reality check when they locked horns with Ireland in a one-off ODI. They got hiccups during the run-chase but thanks to their batting depth which helped them get rid of the danger zone as they aced the target successfully.
Now, Eoin Morgan-led team now travel back home to host Pakistan for a one-off T20I followed by the five-match ODI series. Unfortunately, the hosts have been dealt an injury blow as Dawid Malan picked up an injury while batting in the game against Ireland.
He picked up a groin injury after opening the innings along with James Vince and the pain was clearly witnessed during the match as he struggled while running the between the wickets. So, he concentrated on playing some good strokes rather than going for the singles during his batting.
After rounds of discussion in the team management meeting, the selectors now have made up their mind to add Philip Salt to the T20I squad. He will replace injured Dawid Malan who will miss the game, the official Twitter handle of England Cricket confirmed the news.
Salt to make his presence count for England
It is said that Dawid Malan was a surety in the playing XI because of his heroics while playing for England in the shortest format. But the question arises whether Philip Salt can make the cut into the team. Of course, without second thoughts, he has got a great chance to earn his T20I cap on Sunday. He plays as a top-order batsman for his team Sussex.
Salt has a staggering strike-rate of 151.50 in just 35 T20s and his impressive performances must have caught the selectors’ eyes.
He garnered as many as 706 runs in those many outings and then has scored 4 half-centuries for his team. In the ongoing domestic One-Day Cup, Salt is doing pretty well after having scored 216 runs at an average of 43.20.
Following the one-off T20I match between Pakistan and England, both teams will battle it out each other in the five-match ODI series starting from May 8 at the Kennington Oval in London.
