English lions looks hungry for Prey

Tiltle chaser England got off the block in grand fashion. In the opening match of ICC World Cup 2019 they won huge by 104 runs against strong South Africa. Several batsmen contributed to their 311/8 when they were put into bat.

Ben Stokes blasted 89, opener Jason Roy scored 64, Captain Morgan and Joe Root contributed 59 and 51 respectively. If any one could convert to 100 England could score close to 400.

None less than V Kohli mentioned about England, producing 500 in the ODI in not too distant future.  Perhaps a bit over statement but in the first match Morgan’s men showed enough why they are tournament favorite. South African bowlers did enough chipping in with regular wickets and restricting them to manageable score.

But for a win chasing 312 their top batsmen Hashim Amla, Faf du Plessis and JP Duminy failed. It was not possible for the rest scoring big against top quality English bowling bolstered by inclusion of West Indian origin fast bowler Jofra Archer. South Africa could manage only 207 in response and lost by 104 runs.

Host England is the mother country for cricket. They always promise to win the world cup but never did. In 2019 they are hosting the crickets mega event for the 5th time out of the 12 editions.

Three times they reached the final but lost three times at Lords, London, Eden Gardens, Kolkata and MCG Melbourne to West Indies, Australia and Pakistan. In 2011 and 2015 they were knocked out by Bangladesh.

England is playing excellent One day cricket over the past one year. The team has quality inform players in all position – power hitters, useful all rounders, good new ball bowlers, excellent spinners. They have horses for the courses. This time at home England has a fair chance of winning the championship.

Sun shined through out the day at Oval London and cricket admirers were given great treat by English players. South Africa though failed to compete well enough must not lose heart.

There is enough left in the tournament for bouncing back. It is a long-distance marathon where teams can afford losing few matches. If Dayle Steyn gets fit and added to the line up South Africa would start winning subject to their key batsmen making justice to their names.
