Experience puts us ahead of other teams, says Belim
No matter how tough a group Bangladesh have been put into in the forthcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2017 in England and Wales, experience is one thing that will keep the Tigers ahead of every other teams, believes former Bangladesh opener Javed Omar Belim.
“It’s true that we are in a very tough group. But you see, we have a more experienced side than any other team. There was a time when everyone used to say we don’t have experience. But now it’s totally different,” he said.
He also added, “We have some senior players in the team who have been playing for around 10 years. And so the English condition is also not very strange for them. Some of our players are familiar with these conditions, and this will add up to our advantage going into the competition.”
Belim also compared the current Bangladesh side with the Sri Lanka team that won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1996.
“Look at our team, we are just like what Sri Lanka used to be before 1996. They had dominated Australia in Australia, and then they also won the World Cup next year. We also have a great opportunity to prove our mettle in English conditions. No matter how good you play at home or at the subcontinent, all that counts is how you do in countries like England and Australia.
“And here we are now in England to play the Champions Trophy. If we can make a good result here, for example we emerge the champions or the runners-up, we will rise to the next level we have been rooting for of late, and then we can also fancy our chances in the next World Cup,” Belim concluded.
