Faf becomes 3rd fastest SA player to 5000 ODI runs
South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis must be a happy man right now. His team got the better of Sri Lanka in the back-to-back ODIs. The recent 113-win against the Lankans in the second fixture must have surely boosted South Africa’s confidence to look forward to winning the next match only to seal the ODI series.
Proteas posted a challenging 251 on the board. Thanks to Quinton de Kock’s 70-ball 94 at the top. He was so good that he was smashing boundaries at will. With a flurry of 17 fours and a six to his knock, he deserves a certificate of excellence. He was named the man of the match.
Skipper Faf du Plessis was also superb. His blazing half-century came at the right time when the team needed some support during the passage of play. He went past 5,000 ODI runs, becoming the third fastest South Africa player to accomplish the feat in 125 innings.
The other two top players are Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers who achieved the landmark in 101 and 124 innings respectively.
Faf du Plessis at the post-match presentation hinted about JP Duminy and Dale Steyn’s comeback. “Someone like JP Duminy has to come back. We have to fix that. If he comes back, it might change one or two other things. Obviously, Dale Steyn will be back for the last two games. Hopefully, we can get our top six batsmen, an all-rounder and four bowlers firing for the World Cup.”
