du Plessis to miss Lords Test
South Africa’s test captain Faf du Plessis will miss the 1st test against England at Lord’s to stay with his wife after the difficult birth of their 1st child. Dean Elgar has been chosen to be the stand in captain, and lead the side against England.
After South Africa’s early exit from the ICC Champions Trophy Faf returned home. He didn’t participate in the 3 match t20 series against England to stay with his wife during their 1st child’s birth. He was scheduled to return and lead the side in the 1st test match at Lords. But the difficult birth of his child has delayed his return. He is expected to join the side before the 2nd test at Trent bridge on July 14.
South Africa’s team manager, Dr. Mohammed Moosajee explained the scenario. He said,“Faf’s wife gave birth to their first child last week but the difficult nature of the delivery has delayed his return to the UK. The mother and baby have settled at home but he will be unable to make it back in time to take part in the first Test match. He will link up with the squad in the UK later this week.”
South Africa will have to choose between replacement batsmen Theunis de Bruyn and Aiden Markram to replace Faf in the side.
South Africa’s opening batsman Dean Elgar will captain the side for the 1st time against England at Lords. Du Plessis joins AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn to miss out on the 1st Test match against England.
