Faf still in South Africa’s schemes
Cricket South Africa’s selection convenor Linda Zondi said that Faf du Plessis is not completely out of South African team and he is still in the schemes of the team.
South African cricket team is going through more and more bad phase now. At the moment they are struggling against England in the home Test series as the visitors are leading the Test series with two win while the hosts managed to win only one.
Not only in one format, South African team need to be engineered in all three formats. As some part of plans of the board, Quinton de Kock has been appointed as the captain of South African ODI team and former skipper Faf du Plessis is dropped from the squad.
This has raised concerns over du Plessis’ future in the team. But Cricket South Africa selection convenor Linda Zondi said that Faf is still in the schemes of the cricket team. “He hasn’t retired. He is still in our plans, but it is important in terms of succession plans that we look at other options,” Sport24 quoted Zondi as saying.
“It is the same for KG (Rabada). It is about managing workloads and this is an important year for us in T20 cricket with the World Cup coming up towards the end of the year (in Australia in September). It’s just about giving opportunities to other guys,” Zondi added.
Talking about Faf du Plessis’ future in International cricket he said, “At the moment he hasn’t said anything to me.” Earlier Faf said that he will make a decision after the end of ICC T20 World Cup 2020 in Australia.
