Fakhar ruled out of New Zealand tour


Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out of New Zealand tour after COVID-19 symptoms are starting to show in him. For this, Pakistan team have departed for New Zealand today (November 23) without Fakhar.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Sunday that Fakhar was showing COVID-19 symptoms like fever though he’d been tested coronavirus negative. For that case, they left out the left-handed batsman from the tour of New Zealand as a precautionary measure and giving the top priority to the health of rest of the team members.

“Fakhar has been isolated in the team hotel in Lahore as soon as his condition was detected and the PCB’s medical panel is now monitoring him,” a PCB official said. He also confirmed that the team didn’t ask for any replacement of Fakhar.

Team Doctor Dr Sohail Saleem said: “Fakhar’s covid test report was received on Saturday which came out negative but today he picked up fever. As soon as his condition was reported, he was isolated from the rest of the squad in the team hotel. We are constantly monitoring his condition and remain hopeful of his quick recovery. However, he is not fit to travel with the squad and as such has been withdrawn from the touring party.”

Pakistan will play three T20Is and two Tests against New Zealand which is scheduled to start from December 18.
