Fearless Shakib breaks streak against Afghanistan
The clash between Bangladesh and Afghanistan was like a preparation game for the final and the hosts will be more confident going into the game after beating the visitors by four wickets at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS).
After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan elected to bowl first. The openers started off brilliantly once again as they put 75 runs in the opening stand. But as soon as Afif Hossain came to bowl for the first time in this series, the visitors collapsed yet again. The youngster picked two wickets and bowled a double-wicket maiden over in his first over to changed the game around on its head.
Shakib also picked up the vital wicket of Mohammad Nabi, which was his 350th T20 wicket. He is now fourth in the list of all-time leading wicket-taker in this format. The visitors managed to put 138 on the board in the end.
In reply, Liton Das’s poor form against Afghanistan continued as he departed to Mujeeb yet again while Nazmul Hossain Shanto wasted his vital chance again as well. He is now likely to be dropped in the final.
Then came skipper Shakib, who rescued Bangladesh from trouble and guided all the way to victory against the visitors. With 8 fours and 1 six, Shakib took Bangladesh over the line along with Mosaddek’s short came of 19* from 12.
