It was Mustafizur’s only 9th ODI match. And in just 9 matches, he now has as many as three five-wicket haul to his name. He notched up his maiden fifer in his debut match against India. And again in the next match, he followed up his previous day’s brilliance with an even more outstanding performance, as he took 6 wickets then.
But in the next six matches – one against India, three against South Africa and two against Zimbabwe, he couldn’t meet with such success again. But in the third match of the series against Zimbabwe, he didn’t make any such mistake again. He successfully picked up the third fifer of his career, and first against Zimbabwe when he finished with the figures of 5 for 34.
And today’s wonderful performance, he not only was adjudged the Best Bangladesh Performer of the Match, he is also going to finish the year as the country’s leading ODI wicket-taker. Playing just 9 matches, he took 26 matches. Of these 26 wickets, 13 came against India, 5 came against South Africa and now another 8 have come against Zimbabwe in this series. Shakib, who is next to Mustafizur as far as taking most number of wickets is concerned, grabbed 23 wickets in 16 matches.
Meanwhile with today’s fifer, Mustafizur has also entried his name to another unique record. He is now the bolwer to take three five-wicket hauls in the least number of matches. Australia’s Ryan Harris previously held the record, as he took three fifers in his first 16 matches. But now this record totally belongs to Mustafizur as he needed only 9 matches to grab three fifers.
