Former Sri Lankan right-handed batsman Mahela Jayawardene is open to the coaching role at the moment. Even he was in contention for the post during the time too, when BCCI called for applicants. In recent times, the best example to portray the coaching career of the former Sri Lankan cricketer is Mumbai Indians.

He is been with the franchise for the last two years and the franchise won the cup in both seasons. In 2017 also he had the same stint as a coach for the franchise. Apart from franchise cricket, he did a fair job as the batting coach for the England Cricket team. During that time, England did well in UAE as well as England reached the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2016.
